If you head north on Route 220 from the heart of Waldoboro, you'll find a slice of Europe right here in Maine. Morse's "Kraut House" offers their famous sauerkraut, a European deli and cafe, as well as some of the finest food imported from all over the world. Foodies from all over rave about their authentic German cuisine: from a stunning variety of cured meats and gourmet cheeses to their renowned sauerkraut and homemade pickles and spicy mustards - you'll find something to excite your palate.
We are thrilled to announce that Morse's will be donating some of their delicious wares to our Raising the Roof Barn Party on August 1st.
(Don't have your tickets yet? It's not too late but nab 'em quick before they're gone! Click here to purchase.)
You'll have to come out and taste what they have in store! We can't wait.
In 1910, Virgil Morse delivered a barrel of pickled cabbage to John Gay's store in Waldoboro. By 1953 Morse's operation had moved into the current "kraut haus" on Route 220 with a bustling wholesale sauerkraut business.
by 2002, the Kraut Haus Restaurant opened, featuring probably the best Reuben sandwich on the coast of Maine (but don't take our word for it - try for yourself!)
Thanks to a writeup in the Boston Globe, 'A German food lover's paradise in Maine, it can be tricky to get a table on the weekends, but it's well worth the effort.
In addition to the restaurant, Morse's opened the Bavarian Pantry in 2003, adding a variety of specialty food items beyond the delicious 'kraut and famous pickles.
In 2015, James Gammon and Cody LaMontagne bought Morse's and moved into the old Morse farm with big plans for the future. The deli and specialty grocery are ever-expanding under their thoughtful curation.
Morse's boasts a stunning array of sweet and hard-to-find European confections, so this happens to be an excellent place for Santa Claus to pick up stocking stuffers. Just saying.
They also offer some scrumptious catering options for your next gathering or office party. Hello!
